YAKMA was founded by Dave Marriott in 1998. Our syllabus is YAKMA Hapkido.
The aim of our lessons is help people become the best they can be both physically and mentally at the same time. as providing a friendly and caring atmosphere for students to learn in.
We believe that martial arts is as much about perfecting the charachter as learning techniques.
All our classses develop key life skills such as Confidence, Respect and Mental Strength. These skills are particularly important in junior members as they will help them to develop into strong independent adults free from pier pressure. Physical benefits of all our courses include increased fitness, weight loss and muscle toning. After a hard day at work or school stress release is yet another important benefit of our classes.

Some of the obvious benifits you can expect from training at YAKMA are increased fitness levels, greater confidence, better co-ordination, better balance, weight control and toning.
Children are taught to resist pier pressure, how to respond to bullies, learn increased focus, respect and self respect. All these key life skills allow them to grow into strong independent and considerate adults. They will also have fun making new friends.
Adults are encouraged to train at their own pace and level to allow them to increase their fitness levels in a safe and controlled manner.
YAKMA classes are run in a fun and friendly manner where all are made to feel welcome. A great place to get fit, learn new things and make friends.
WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN YAKMA?
In a time when people are increasingly becoming oveweight problems like Type 2 Diabetes which was virtually unheard of in children 15 years ago is becoming much more common. Experts agree being overweight is the most significant factor. Increased fitness levels will also have a positive effect on your moods.
Self confidence is a major factor in preventing bullying. 1.5 million young people (50%) have been bullied within the past year (Annual bullying survey 2016). YAKMA are members of "Martial Artists Against Bullying" and Dave Marriott has successfully completed the Black Belt UK level 2 course "Preventing Bullying". Dave is passionate about preventing bullying as it was a major problem for him in his younger days and his reason for starting to train in martial arts.
No matter how fit you are when you start martial arts you will extend your current limits physically, mentally and spiritually. On the physical side you will gain strength, flexibility, co-ordination, balance and experience the benefits of weight control and toning. Mentally you will gain confidence, tenacity, tolerance and patience. Spiritualy you wil learn to live in the moment, release the ego, slow your mind and focus on the task in hand.
